systems/layers is a multi-disciplinary dance/theater piece that follows eight characters through one day of their life in a city. The piece is a collaboration with Louisville music ensemble, Rachel's, who composed the score and play live in performance. systems/layers follows an international tourist through a city as she is swept by the tide of humanity. Through her eyes, we see the interior lives of the faceless crowd. We magnify the hopes, fantasies, frustrations, and madness of people on their way to work, at the office, on the subway, at a café, or in their homes. The piece was intentionally created without text. Using movement, music, and an aural soundscape we tell the stories of these urban dwellers through the poetry of their bodies. This piece premiered at Utah State University in September of 2004.
