Conservatory 2016-2017 Application

Application Instructions

These application instructions are also available for download here, should you wish to retain a printable copy.

Deadlines

The Conservatory application closes on Thursday, March 31, 2016, at 11:59 PM Eastern time. However, we encourage you to apply early, as we will consider applications for interview as they come in.

We encourage you to reach out to SITI’s office with any questions long before the application deadline. Please also contact us if you would like to set up a time to visit SITI or observe Winter Training on a weekday morning between February 1-March 4, 2015.

Auditions

If you have never trained with SITI before, or if it has been many years since you last trained with SITI, you will be asked to audition on Friday, February 19. Auditions take place in New York, NY at SITI’s studios or in Los Angeles, CA at a time and location to be announced.

During this audition, we will introduce you to some of the fundamentals of the Suzuki method and the Viewpoints, SITI’s Core training methods. Conservatory artists train in Suzuki and Viewpoints daily, and we believe it is important that you experience the training as well as SITI’s philosophical approach before you apply to the Conservatory. We ask that you come prepared with a two minute monologue, contemporary or classical, or a two minute detailed description about a project you plan to make in the future. We will send more instructions to those who register for the audition.

Although attending an audition is not required, it will significantly strengthen your application and is strongly recommended for all artists who have not trained with SITI Company.

Artists who have trained with us for four or more weeks before are not required to audition. However, if you are interested in attending an audition to gain additional experience, we will be happy to accommodate you. Please register below.

Financial Aid Application

SITI has a limited number of scholarships and work/study positions available. These financial aid opportunities provide up to $5,000 in the form of a tuition reduction. If you are interested in applying for financial aid, please submit the financial aid application by March 31, 2016. Conservatory admissions decisions are not made on the basis of financial need, and financial aid is awarded after we make admissions decisions. You can submit your financial aid application here

Interview

SITI Company will conduct interviews with selected applicants. These interviews will take place at SITI’s studio in New York City in April 2016. For applicants unable to travel to New York, interviews will be conducted via Skype if necessary.

Notification

We expect to notify all applicants of admissions decisions by 6 PM on May 1, 2016, via e-mail. If you have not heard from SITI by then, please check your spam folder, then e-mail or call SITI with questions.

Application Materials: to prepare before you begin the application

1. Contact Information

You will need to provide contact information, an emergency contact, where you heard about SITI Conservatory, your current fields of practice, and audition/interview preferences.

2. Budget worksheet

Please click here to download the Budget worksheet, in which you outline how you plan to fund your Conservatory year. We are looking for Conservatory candidates who have a viable, realistic plan to pay for tuition and living expenses. Please use this worksheet to create a budget, then upload your budget worksheet along with your application materials.

3. Work Sample

Please provide the link to a 5-10 minute video work sample. We recommend uploading your work sample to Vimeo, as it is somewhat more secure than YouTube. Please do not send us raw video files. We recommend password protecting your work sample; if you do so, please include the password in your application.

The work sample should give us a sense of your work. We prefer seeing documentation of a recent performance, as we are most interested in seeing how you engage your body in performance. If possible, please include an uninterrupted video clip that features you; you may also edit together a few clips if it gives a better sense of the scope of your work. If you do not have documentation of a past performance, you may film yourself performing recent work in a classroom or studio.

4. Photo or Headshot

You will be asked to upload a headshot or photo of yourself. Jpeg is preferred, and the maximum size is 2000 KB.

5. Resume or Curriculum Vitae

Please upload your artistic resume or curriculum vitae, which should include performance, direction, writing, devising experience, visual art making, artistic training, and other work or volunteer experiences that will inform your work during Conservatory.

6. Application Questions

We will ask you to write several short personal statements. Please take your time answering them; we review your responses carefully. We recommend writing these personal statements in a separate Word document, then pasting your answers into the fields below. Please do stay within the word limits.

7. Two Letters of Recommendation

Two letters of recommendation from former teachers, directors, or another artistic or academic professional are required to complete the application. You may upload your recommendation letters with your on-line application, or you can ask your recommenders to e-mail or mail their letters to the address below.
